Countries throughout the world have a need, and in many cases a legal obligation, to ensure air quality is meeting specific standards. Policies aim to reduce exposure to air pollution, by reducing emissions and setting limits and targets for AQI. Public authorities in cities have deployed static stations to monitor air quality data for a set of pollutant with specific, and high cost, sensing technologies. These stations provide highly accurate data but their cost limits the quantity of deployments, leaving large gaps in coverage.

VISIBILITY - Currently unable to see amount of power consumed per machine or plant; need to account for energy used per batch. WASTE - 10% of product fails quality standards, unable to identify point of failure (initial spinning, weaving, final processing, etc). INACCURACY - Acquiring OEE measurements and compiling them is a manual process, which lacks visibility into all parts of the production process and is error-prone. LACK OF INTEROPERABILITY - Outdated machinery still has long, effective lifespans but needs to connect to newer, digital assets

The idea for the Moocall calving sensor came about when one of the Moocall founding team, Niall Austin lost a heifer and her calf due to a difficult calving back in 2010. He had a theory that a device to measure tail movement might be able to predict the onset of calving and brought the idea to the other Moocall founders Michael Stanley and Emmet Savage. After many months of research and development the MooCall device was born, however they needed robust and reliable, global connectivity with roaming capability to ensure that this critical data could be transferred the crucial moment. Vodafone IoT worked closely with MooCall to implement a solution that works seamlessly every time, wherever the cow might be situated.

Water pipeline pressure needs to be kept at 0.3 Mpa in order to deliver a reliable stream of tap water to homes, businesses, and factories. Water companies use real-time monitoring systems in order to achieve consistent water pressure management that can quickly respond to any sudden drops of water pressure. System Requirements - Monitor all the distributed pressure points of a widely distributed water pipeline network - Monitor and display in real-time data from every pressure value on the central SCADA system HMI - Stable cellular communications network - High expandability

IIC Connected Vehicle Urban Traffic Management Testbed
Road congestion and strained transportation networks are persistent concerns associated with the rapid urbanization of developing and developed economies. A 2015 study1 reported that travel delays due to traffic congestion led to the waste of 3.1 billion gallons of fuel and a loss of nearly 7 billion extra hours to travelers during rush hour traffic, with a nationwide cost of around $160 billion, or $960 per commuter. Alleviating traffic congestion, in addition to improving safety, is leading public and private organizations to explore new mobility paradigms such as ride-share autonomous vehicles. GOAL The goal of the Connected Vehicle Urban Traffic Management (CVUTM) testbed is to create a smart road traffic ecosystem featuring connected vehicles using vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) technologies, sensor fusion, industrial IoT platforms, cloud infrastructure, and edge analytics. This testbed will serve to preempt road congestion, automatically detect unusual eventson the road, and enable cooperative movement of traffic. In due course, both autonomous and non-autonomous vehicles will participate in this ecosystem with a goal of minimizing road congestion and improve overall improving motorist and pedestrian safety.

Optimising parking management efficiency is the main challenge of car park operators. Estapar is Brazil's most important car park operator. It needed a solution to simplify parking control, making the work of traffic wardens more efficient and improving the accessibility of vehicles to parking areas. The aim of the project developed for Estapar in Santa Barbara Oeste was to: optimise operating costs, increase the rotation and occupancy of spaces and, therefore, parking revenue, reduce the time spent looking for a parking space and improve the citizen's parking experience.

Obbligato for SaaS in Thailand
A large amount of engineering work involving frequent specification changes not only resulted in a nightmare for staff but also caused a considerable amount of material wastage due to miscommunication and last minute change notices. Need a system that is not too complicated to manage, and is easy to learn and use for typical employees because there a shortage of specialist IT staff and the company employs many short-term contract employees. Need an application that is not too expensive to implement, easy to use and powerful enough to handle a large volume of work.

Storage tanks are irregular in shape and a certain amount of mathematical modelling is required to get an accurate representation of volume and, more importantly, the weight of material in each tank. In addition, countries have different emission regulations, so the ships position needed to be accurately known in order to geotag emission data.

The leading CPG company operates several warehouses, mostly closer to the last distribution point (Large retailers). Products in various categories are packaged in specific delivery or display cartons at these facilities. As most CPG businesses consist of high volume with low margins, optimizing every operation and effective utilization of resources add up to profit margins. The key problem at these warehouses is the lack of visibility into reasons for machine breakdowns or idle time, thereby delay in delivery. The sunrise meetings lead to post-mortem of delivery issues like delay or quality. The customer wanted to implement real-time line monitoring and alert system to gain control over downtime issues and implement improvement measures.

Ace tracked which products retailers ordered, when they were ordered and shipped. However, the company could not track or forecast actual sales. Data used for reporting was up to a one-week old, owing to performance and data cleansing issues. Requirement to integrate wholesale and inventory data with POS data to help drive key business decisions, improve category management, lower inventory costs and optimize pricing. Reliance on custom coding to integrate POS data was excessively resource intensive and led to major performance constraints.

The great promise of new connected concepts of industry like 'Industry 4.0' is their ability to deliver a historically unparalleled level of responsiveness and flexibility. While modern supply chains are already heavily integrated and designed to be fluid and fast moving, a large swathe of manufacturing still remains beholden to economies of scale, large production runs, and careful preplanning. The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) is set to change this by allowing small-batch or even custom manufacturing on a truly industrial scale. With machines whose functions are not set in stone, but flexible and determined by their operating software and with a new form of connectivity bringing industrial engineers, product manufacturers, and end users closer together than ever before. Ad-hoc adjustments to automotive parts, for example, during active product runs or the bespoke manufacturing of custom sneakers become very viable options indeed.Much of this remains a theoretical vision, but IUNO, the German national reference project for IT security in Industry 4.0 demonstrates the new capabilities in action with a secure technology data marketplace running a smart drinks mixer.

Seven global customer contact centers handle about 4 million calls annually, and this sea of daily information needs to be analyzed, which took up to two days manually, so negatively affecting service levels. With the amount of data ARI collects doubling every 14 months, their in-house ETL data warehouse limited their ability to fully help customers reduce fleet costs and gain operational efficiencies.

Water pumping, treatment and conveyance are among the largest energy and cost outlays for many local and regional municipalities. Electricity time-of-use rates and peak pricing tariffs are driving those costs even higher. This case study describes how Monterey Regional Water Pollution Control Agency (MRWPCA) implemented a process data monitoring and control solution in order to analyze and optimize energy use, reduce deployment costs and save operational expenses.
