About The Customer
Hyundai AutoEver is a technology-driven team that supports Hyundai Motor Group in its goal of becoming a leading global mobility company. The team plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between car and mobility ecosystems. Hyundai AutoEver CEO, Jung Sik Suh, believes that the 'car of tomorrow' is one with connected, innovative features and services, rather than one with the highest engine power or fuel efficiency. The company works closely with Hyundai Motor Group to accelerate the pace of innovation and strengthen expertise in embedded automotive software.
The Challenge
Hyundai AutoEver, a key player in supporting Hyundai Motor Group’s IT initiatives, faced challenges in developing the connected car of the future. With over four million Hyundai vehicles connected to the cloud, a number expected to increase annually, the company aimed to provide personalized digital experiences for drivers. However, to achieve this, Hyundai AutoEver had to modernize their applications and technology. A prime example of this was their Bluelink® mobile app, a luxurious, connected car service offering various features such as remote start, door lock and unlock, on-demand diagnostics and alerts, destination search, and remote car finder.
The Solution
To overcome these challenges, Hyundai AutoEver partnered with VMware Tanzu Labs. The engineers from both companies worked together to learn about cloud-native technology and how it could enhance the developer experience. They established a domain-driven design to create common models, simplifying development by communicating requirements, data, and processes. After their engagement with Tanzu Labs, the Hyundai AutoEver application team was able to easily deploy containerized and scaled applications, monitoring all by self-service. Hyundai AutoEver built a cloud-native platform to enhance the developer’s experience, allowing developers to focus strictly on applications and getting new features into the hands of Hyundai customers. The company gradually released new applications to the market to coexist with their heritage applications.
