Cardiac Surgery Associates (CSA) was facing a challenge with its siloed environment comprised of diverse systems which made it difficult to generate reports about the state of its medical business. As the number of patients grew, the ability to deliver accurate information to stakeholders became crucial to providing elite service. Business administrators were forced to spend countless hours compiling information from various sources, then manually enter it into Microsoft Excel for further analysis. CSA’s technology infrastructure is comprised of numerous disparate data sources that lacked integration. This setup presented many obstacles when it came to combining data for the purposes of reporting and analysis.

CSA deployed the WebFOCUS business intelligence (BI) and analytics platform from Information Builders to build a guided self-service physician portal that surgeons and business administrators can quickly and easily leverage on their own. WebFOCUS brings together critical information from many sources, and delivers it to more than 50 in-house and external stakeholders. Users can monitor everything from collections, cost centers, and payroll, to relative value units (RVUs), a common way to measure surgeon productivity. CSA deployed an SQL Server running four instances of Windows Server. The server also handled development and production environments of WebFOCUS. AppStudio and InfoAssist are being used to create a variety of standardized reports, dashboards, and InfoApps, which retrieve and consolidate data from the various back-end systems and make it accessible to stakeholders in an intuitive way.
