Sêmeia, a company that designs and implements services for patients and doctors to extend the medical time dedicated to monitoring and patient relations, was looking to commit itself and its ecosystem to reducing its carbon footprint. However, to reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, it was essential to measure them first. The company needed a solution that would allow it to calculate its carbon footprint accurately, structure its environmental policy, and draw up an action plan to reduce its emissions in the long term. The challenge was to find a simple, intuitive, and recognized solution in the market that could help them achieve these objectives.

Sêmeia is a company that was founded in April 2017 by Pierre Hornus, Mathieu Godart, and Daniel Szeftel. The company was born out of the first prize won from the Assurance Maladie during the Médicament hackathon. Sêmeia designs and implements services for patients and doctors to extend the medical time dedicated to monitoring and patient relations, particularly in the context of monitoring chronic pathologies with remote monitoring solutions. These services for automatic collection and intuitive restitution of health data, and data analysis for medical decision-making, are based on the use of innovative techniques, and in particular the use of the latest Artificial Intelligence technologies.

Sêmeia partnered with Greenly, a company that offers a simple and intuitive GHG assessment solution. Greenly's solution, which has been awarded the French Tech Green 2020 label, enabled Sêmeia to calculate its carbon footprint, which included not only direct and energy-related emissions (Scope 1 & 2) but also indirect emissions caused by service providers and services used by the company (Scope 3). With this information, Sêmeia was able to structure its environmental policy and draw up an action plan to reduce its emissions. The action plan included more than ten actions, such as the use of data centres located in countries with low-carbon electricity and the modal shift from air to rail. In addition, Sêmeia set up a responsible purchasing policy, monitoring the emissions and commitments of its partners, and involved its employees in the CSR approach by sending them a thematic and interactive climate training quiz every month.

The company has been able to structure its environmental policy and draw up an action plan that aligns with the objectives of the Paris Agreement. The implementation of this plan has already seen the company take significant steps towards reducing its emissions. Furthermore, the collaboration with Greenly has enabled Sêmeia to set up a responsible purchasing policy and involve its employees in the CSR approach, thereby fostering a culture of sustainability within the organization. The company has also been able to communicate its commitment to sustainability to its ecosystem, thereby enhancing its reputation as a responsible business.
