Megamation, a provider of SaaS-based maintenance management solutions, needed to seamlessly access data in clients’ backend financial systems, which range from small, simple applications to large, complex ERP environments. The company's flagship offering, DirectLine, required interaction with each customer’s current finance system for orders and payment authorization. While smaller customers may have very simple systems, larger companies – such as the big manufacturers and large hospitals that comprise Megamation’s client base – have typically deployed sophisticated enterprise resource planning (ERP) environments such as JD Edwards, SAP, or Oracle. The challenge was to develop a partnership that would extend the company’s flagship offering with broad-reaching data integration capabilities.

Megamation Systems, founded in 1984, provides maintenance management solutions that help clients with large physical plants ensure that maintenance and resource renewal happen routinely, without problem or hiatus. The company’s flagship offering, DirectLine, is a software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution built to control and organize maintenance management processes. DirectLine is feature rich, customizable, and reliable, allowing Megamation customers to streamline work orders, perform comprehensive preventive maintenance, and leverage industry best practices. Hospitals, factories, and other major customers rely on DirectLine to budget for all resources and maintain procedural adherence. Customization and supporting clients’ unique business processes are the main goals at Megamation. The base product is one main application with different modules that can be turned on or off, depending on the needs of the customer. This allows Megamation to adapt to a wide variety of customer specifications. Modules can be added and customized as the client’s needs grow and change, providing efficient scalability.

Megamation turned to integration solutions from Information Builders to retrieve the back-end financial information needed to keep DirectLine’s maintenance management capabilities running smoothly for clients. Information Builders was chosen for its strong, proven technologies and its extensive experience working with large ERP vendors. The Information Builders iWay Integration Suite was selected to promote maximum interoperability between the DirectLine SaaS solution and the back-end financial systems of Megamation customers. With broad access to more than 300 sources, including adapters for JD Edwards, SAP, and other popular ERP systems, iWay enables DirectLine to access any financial information at any client site, regardless of where it resides. iWay Service Manager enables rapid “translation” between DirectLine and other systems. Since incorporating iWay into DirectLine implementations, the average length of customer development has been reduced from 6 to 12 months to 8 to 12 weeks, on average.
