Ecologie Urbaine & Citoyenne, an agency specializing in the ecological transition of territories and cities, was seeking a simple and effective solution to conduct their first Greenhouse Gas (GHG) assessment. The agency recognized the need to measure their carbon footprint to structure their environmental policy and devise an action plan for long-term emission reduction. However, they faced the challenge of finding a reliable and user-friendly tool to measure their GHG emissions. The assessment needed to consider not only direct and energy-related emissions (Scope 1 & 2) but also indirect emissions caused by service providers and services used by the company (Scope 3).

Ecologie Urbaine & Citoyenne chose Greenly's solution for their GHG assessment due to its simplicity, intuitiveness, and market recognition. Greenly's solution, which had earned the French Tech Green 2020 label, provided a comprehensive assessment of Ecologie Urbaine's carbon footprint, including both direct and indirect emissions. The assessment revealed that Ecologie Urbaine had a footprint of 19t CO2e in 2020, or 1.9t per employee, which was significantly lower than the sector average. Following the assessment, Ecologie Urbaine & Citoyenne began implementing an action plan to further reduce their emissions. This plan included assigning a manager to each major emission item, offsetting emissions through a French project supporting the transition of agricultural practices, improving digital practices, extending the life of computers, making seminars vegetarian, offering glass tupperware to employees for meals at the office, offering training and quizzes to employees, and offering an additional day of teleworking per week.

The GHG assessment conducted by Greenly provided Ecologie Urbaine & Citoyenne with a clear understanding of their carbon footprint, enabling them to structure their environmental policy and devise an effective action plan for emission reduction. The assessment also revealed that their per employee emission was significantly lower than the sector average, demonstrating the effectiveness of their existing ecological practices. The action plan developed following the assessment is expected to further reduce their emissions, aligning with the United Nations 2021 Sustainable Development Goals. The agency plans to conduct a new carbon assessment in 2021 to monitor the impact of the measures taken.

Ecologie Urbaine's carbon footprint was 19t CO2e in 2020

Per employee emission was 1.9t, almost 10 times less than the sector average of 12t per employee
