CDS Global, a leading provider of outsourced business solutions to publishers, direct marketers, and other types of businesses, faced the challenge of duplicating the capabilities of a robust reporting environment in a software as a service (SaaS) offering. The goal was to enable media and consumer product clients to securely access, analyze, and visualize circulation, fulfillment, and order management data via the Internet. The company wanted to improve its existing reports to enable publishers to make fast, knowledgeable decisions and manage their businesses more efficiently. CDS Global decided to replace its existing reporting environment with Information Builders’ WebFOCUS business intelligence (BI) platform. It used the BI software to create a software as a service (SaaS) application called InFOCUS Circ+ that lets authorized users access circulation and fulfillment information through Active Technology reports and web-based reporting dashboards. The BI team used WebFOCUS to devise a lightweight model that increased ease of use for customers. Clients simply click on tabs to navigate from one domain to the next. For example, the Net Subscription report presents circulation data that incorporates graphs and charts. Because all of the data is stored in one cohesive data mart, clients now have the ability to create sophisticated cross-title reports, selecting various publications and specifying a date range. Embedded hyperlink drill downs also let people see the details behind the summaries simply by hovering the cursor over a data point.
