Altamaha Bank and Trust, a Georgia financial institution with approximately $150M in assets, was facing challenges with its legacy IT infrastructure. The existing system, a mix of Dell and other servers with internal storage scattered across four branches, had become too costly, complex, and risky to maintain and scale. Expanding capacity or introducing new applications meant deploying additional physical servers—an inefficient and time-consuming prospect. Moreover, the bank was constrained by an ineffective data backup solution that relied on removable media. Hardware failures or application mishaps had the potential to disrupt business for hours or even days while systems were recovered.

Altamaha Bank and Trust is a financial institution based in Georgia, United States. The bank has approximately $150M in assets and operates across four branches. The bank's legacy IT infrastructure was a mix of Dell and other servers with internal storage scattered across these branches. This setup had become too costly, complex, and risky to maintain and scale. The bank was also constrained by an ineffective data backup solution that relied on removable media, posing a risk to business continuity in the event of hardware failures or application mishaps.

The bank's new CTO, Shan Venable, initiated a virtualization and modernization program to improve the operational efficiency, performance, and reliability of the bank’s IT infrastructure. After considering a number of options including Nutanix, Venable selected HPE SimpliVity hyperconverged infrastructure for Altamaha’s next-generation IT implementation. HPE SimpliVity provides a scalable, modular building block of x86 resources that delivers all the functionality of traditional IT infrastructure—including hypervisor, compute, storage, and data protection functions—in a single device, with a unified administrative interface. Altamaha replaced 11 physical servers scattered across four branches with three 2U HPE SimpliVity hyperconverged nodes in a central data center. A fully redundant configuration ensures continuous availability in the event of hardware failures. Two additional HPE SimpliVity hyperconverged nodes in a bank branch provide rapid disaster recovery.
