Making wind a reliable source of energy depends greatly on the placement of the wind turbines used to produce electricity. Turbulence is a significant factor as it strains turbine components, making them more likely to fail. Vestas wanted to pinpoint the optimal location for wind turbines to maximize power generation and reduce energy costs.

Each wellhead was equipped with various sensors and meters that needed to be monitored and controlled from a central HMI, often miles away from the assets in the field. Redundant solar and wind generators were installed at each wellhead to support the electrical needs of the pumpstations, temperature meters, cameras, and cellular modules. In addition to asset management and remote control capabilities, data logging for remote surveillance and alarm notifications was a key demand from the customer. Terra Ferma’s solution needed to be power efficient, reliable, and capable of supporting high-bandwidth data-feeds. They needed a multi-link cellular connection to a central server that sustained reliable and redundant monitoring and control of flow meters, temperature sensors, power supply, and event-logging; including video and image files. This open-standard network needed to interface with the existing SCADA and proprietary network management software.

The primary challenge was to monitor the progress of the plans adopted by the patients. In most cases, the patient will start with a plan and give up in the middle. It is important to motivate them to continue through the plan.

Advitam has acquired a solid expertise in civil infrastructures monitoring and assets management. During their life cycle, civil engineering structures and construction works are aging, deforming, deteriorating and their mechanical capacities are evolving. A sharp knowledge of the mechanical parameters evolution and the monitoring of physical data are key elements to define and execute predictive maintenance strategies as well as to manage the structure life cycle with balance and to ensure the required safety and security for the users of the civil engineering structure.

The possibilities of the Internet of Things are endless and nothing demonstrates this better than one of FW’s most unique projects – a solar-powered camera solution for monitoring fish. Fish researchers worked with FW to integrate a camera system into the customer’s existing equipment installed at the end of a pile dike along the Columbia River. The camera system provides a live video feed of the fish detection array (mounted below the water surface) and surrounding water and weather conditions.

Some public works, civil and heritage buildings have challenges in detecting abnormal structure movements in real time to maintain control of critical structure points, logging and analyzing data of all the structural properties to identify anomalies and accessing promptly to the data without the need of an on-site intervention.

Cisco IoE innovation Centers around the world enable and showcase local innovation and development. relayr had the unique opportunity to be involved in building the connected openBerlin infrastructure from the very beginning. In a building that was conceived from the outset to be completely monitored and controlled by smart systems, relayr set up the middle layer of connectivity – joining all of the separate legacy systems to allow meaningful cross-platform communication.

Federal law requires pipeline operators to monitor areas where large numbers of people reside or gather within close proximity to their pipelines. These high consequence areas (HCAs) are classified based on nearby structures, population density, and business use. HCA designations impact the pipe’s maximum allowable operating pressure (MAOP), size, and inspection requirements.

Sustainable Manufacturing for a Healthier World
Hospital sustainability policies and demand for environmentallyconscious healthcare supplies drove Vention to Verdigris. Vention was seeking energy data metrics, particularly validation of energy usage and insights for potential savings. With 13 facilities and a newly formed sustainability council, Vention needed a tool to easily identify and quantify hidden potential cost savings. They also needed a reliable system to track equipment malfunction to maintain sensitive environments which are critical to medical device manufacturing. Vention selected their Sunnyvale office, which has several clean rooms, for the proof-of-concept test. They wanted to learn how to best prevent downtime for important equipment such as HVAC, which could jeopardize FDA-approved clean room conditions, contaminate materials, and ultimately increase production costs. Vention approached Verdigris to get help going above and beyond their customers’ specific requirements for sustainability.

Smart Technology Brings the Heat to Optimize Steam Heating Systems
Industrial facilities, municipalities, hospitals and universities nationwide depend upon steam carried through pipes to heat their buildings. Unfortunately, the reliability of steam systems also leads to them being forgotten or poorly maintained until it’s too late, resulting in uninsulated distribution components and faulty steam traps (leaks) that can lose hundreds or even thousands of dollars a day in wasted energy. That’s why Embedded Energy Technology (EET) teamed up with Thermaxx Jackets to create a next-generation solution for steam pipe insulation. They wanted to develop a product that not only insulated pipes, but also used technology monitor the system for leaks and heat loss. Ideally this solution would install in minutes, have no wires, and avoid the need for costly construction.
