To address the challenges faced by Waccamaw County RTA, several advanced solutions were implemented. The Advanced Ecolane Reporting System, along with an Ad-hoc reporting tool, was introduced to provide comprehensive reporting capabilities. Ecolane DRT, a completely automated scheduling and dispatching software, was deployed to streamline the scheduling process. Additionally, Ecolane Touch Screen MDT software with turn-by-turn navigation was installed on Android tablets, enhancing the efficiency of dispatching and navigation. A mobile app was developed to accept credit card payments, provide a portal for riders to book and manage trips, and send push notifications. The implementation of these solutions led to significant operational improvements for Coast RTA. The Rides Per Hour (RPH) increased from 0.84 to 1.41, indicating a more efficient use of resources. The number of trips per day ranged from 63 to 93, with an average of 1,700 trips per month. This increase in productivity was achieved with fewer service hours, demonstrating the efficiency of the new system. In March 2020, Coast RTA completed 3,000 more trips compared to March 2019, highlighting the substantial improvement in operational capacity. Additionally, there was a 29% reduction in revenue hours, further emphasizing the enhanced productivity and cost savings achieved through the new system.
