Verizon Wireless deployed NightWatchman Enterprise across 63,000 managed machines within its 88,000 PC infrastructure. NightWatchman is a power management software that reduces the power consumed by PCs by automatically powering down entire networks according to defined criteria. It ensures successful patching and safe reboots, saving open documents without user intervention prior to shutdown. The software's WakeUp functionality powers on all PCs that are asleep or shut down for successful deployment of updates or patches, and also increases the speed at which software can be distributed and deployed. This deployment has resulted in a 24 percent reduction in both PC power consumption and CO2 emissions. With just a four-hour shutdown schedule per evening across the PC estate, Verizon Wireless has achieved savings of US$1.3 million per year across an installed base of 63,000 PCs. This equates to a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions of some 7,700 tons per year.
