Business Operation
The installation of WIN-911’s alarm notification software at the Tobyhanna Army Depot was done as part of an overall energy efficiency project. In the early 2000s, the base worked to decentralize their coal-fired steam heating plant. This project included the construction of 10 boiler rooms housing 21 new boilers, as well as 37 air rotation units installed in various buildings. The entire infrastructure had to be integrated into HMI/SCADA systems and the existing control systems had to be upgraded. Ameresco, a leading independent energy efficiency company, was selected to head the project. Ameresco, in turn, specified WIN-911’s alarm notification system as the software platform used to instantly alert staff of any problems.

[Efficiency Improvement - Maintenance]
WIN-911 software was selected because of its ability to seamlessly integrate with Tridium’s Niagara Platform, the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system, a requirement for use in the project. It was also mandated that there be a method of assigning off-site maintenance personnel to an on-site problem, making it necessary for the call-out system to operate in real time, a feature that WIN-911’s alarm notification software was designed to accomplish. Another factor was its ability to log alarms and responses. This feature allows for a measure of transparency that keeps track of response times and ensures problems and maintenance issues are being addressed in a timely manner.
[Cost Reduction - Energy]
With WIN-911’s help, the Tobyhanna Army Depot is now able to significantly reduce their energy costs as well as improve response times to alarm events requiring staff attention.
