Travelers, particularly those who cross international borders, often face the hassle of paying international roaming charges for their mobile phone, or they might forget to add a travel plan before their trip. Tink Labs Limited, a hospitality IoT solution company based in Hong Kong, helps to solve these communication challenges for travelers staying in hotels. Before deploying Control Center, whenever Tink Labs wanted to set up business rules for their connected IoT devices, or when the company wanted to obtain usage data, it required manual processes that included directly contacting account managers. These processes typically took days, weeks or even months to complete, explains Pil Yuen, Chief Technology Officer and Head of Special Projects at Tink Labs.

Tink Labs Limited is a hospitality IoT solution company based in Hong Kong. They offer a product called handy, which is a no-contract mobile solution rented to hotels and offered as a service to hotel guests during their stay via a subscription fee. The handy smartphone allows hotel guests to make international and local phone calls and access the internet, even if they’re outside the hotel property. The device also allows users to access in-room guest services such as in-room dining, concierge, and other amenities the hotel offers to create a hassle-free travel experience. Tink Labs leverages Cisco Jasper Control Center and KPN to manage the connectivity of the handy smartphones and to help address global scalability.

To manage the connectivity of the handy smartphones and to help address global scalability, Tink Labs leverages Cisco Jasper Control Center, an automated connectivity management platform for IoT devices. Cisco Jasper, in partnership with Netherlands-based service provider KPN, enables Tink Labs to manage connectivity for roughly 250,000 handy devices in 35 cities around the world, spanning thousands of hotel rooms to help millions of global travelers stay connected. Now with the help of Control Center and KPN, Tink Labs staff can access usage data instantly and gain real-time visibility of the status of handy devices. Setting up and launching business rules is now possible as an automated self-service. Through Control Center APIs, Tink Labs is able to integrate a lot of telecom solutions into their back-end management system, which creates a better integration of telecom data and their business data.
