Mechanics Bank, a century-old institution with a rich history of serving local businesses and families, was facing a significant challenge. Despite their excellent traditional banking practices, their online banking services were not up to the mark. The bank's online platform lacked a user-friendly design and was not mobile responsive, which was a significant drawback considering the increasing number of mobile customers. The bank needed a platform that could provide a range of services such as mobile banking, ATM and branch locator, loan applications, and account status updates. The challenge was to create a fresh, easy-to-use design that would be mobile responsive and capable of providing a comprehensive range of banking services.

Mechanics Bank is a century-old banking institution that started in a small storefront near the corner of 3rd and Macdonald Avenue. The bank took its name from its association with the workers of Richmond’s two largest employers at the time, Standard Oil and the Santa Fe Railroad. Under the leadership of local businessman and banker E.M. Downer, the bank survived the Great Depression and two world wars, growing and prospering in step with the Bay Area. It has a long-standing commitment to building lasting relationships, enriching local lives and communities, driving local economic growth, and exceeding client’s expectations every day.

Clarity, a professional design company, was brought in to address the challenge. They started by incorporating elements from the bank's history and branding into the design. A clean and powerful mega menu was constructed to make it easy for users to find what they were looking for. The solution also included a powerful search engine, numerous information pages, clean navigation, and integration with an ATM/Branch locator API. The design also included company bios and history. The front-end CMS used was DNN’s Evoq Professional, and HTML5, CSS3, and Modernizr were used to create the responsive template. Other technologies used included Clarity Connect, JavaScript, JQuery, Telerik controls, and various DNN modules like XMod Pro, Easy DNN News, Rotator, and Gallery.
