The Coalition for a Better Acre (CBA) faced a significant challenge in providing reliable and affordable transportation for participants in their Supported Training Education Program (STEP). The lack of direct public transportation between Lowell and Devens, a distance of 30 miles, created a barrier for many participants. The commute could take over two hours one way, making it difficult for employees to work long hours and affecting employee retention. This situation necessitated a solution that could offer efficient and reliable transportation to support the employment and training needs of the community.

To address the transportation challenge, CBA partnered with HBSS to implement the QRyde Community Based Transportation model. This software solution allowed CBA to easily book and manage rides for their students through various third-party transportation providers. QRyde facilitated the management of rides, payment distribution, and scheduling, making the transportation process more efficient and reliable. The implementation of QRyde's solution significantly reduced commute times, which were previously over two hours one way via public transit. The new system provided shuttle services between Lowell and Devens, with outbound shuttles running at 6:00 am and 6:00 pm, and reverse commute shuttles at 7:00 am and 7:00 pm, seven days a week. This improvement in transportation logistics made it easier for employees to work long hours and noticeably improved employee retention.
