The Parker Water and Sanitation District faced the challenge of supporting rapid population growth in Parker, Colorado, which required a highly efficient and reliable communication system to enhance operations and ensure high-quality water service. The existing network needed an overhaul to provide uninterrupted and economical Machine to Machine (M2M) communications. The district sought a solution that could integrate seamlessly with its existing Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system to monitor and control water and wastewater operations effectively.

The Parker Water and Sanitation District partnered with Process Control Dynamics, Inc. (PCD Sales) and FreeWave Technologies to implement a new M2M communication network. FreeWave provided network design, path study analysis, and diagnostic tools, including Tool Suite software, which allowed the district to diagnose and configure wireless radios from SCADA programmers' desktops. This eliminated the need for remote field repairs, saving significant time and resources. The district mapped out and identified locations for network gateways to ensure effective data transmission. FreeWave's wireless radio models, including HTplus, FGR Series Radios, and FGR2-IO, were integrated into the network. The new network design included three layers: network gateways, HTplus radios connected to the gateways, and a subnet of FGR radios. This setup ensured reliable data transmission and allowed communication with every PLC in the network.
