Micron21 faced the challenge of expanding its infrastructure to meet increasing demand while ensuring high performance and security. The company needed to replace its software-based load-balancing technology with a more effective hardware solution. The urgency was heightened by the opportunity to host the 2014 White Night festival, which required managing over 1 million simultaneous visitors. Micron21 needed reliable, high-performance devices with features like RAM caching, compression, SSL acceleration, and DDoS protection to successfully execute the festival’s hosting and retain future clients.

Micron21 chose A10 Networks ADCs for their flexibility and performance, capable of running 20 gigabits worth of load balance performance per device. They purchased four ADCs, providing 80 gigabits of physical capacity, essential for supporting high-demand customers. The ADCs were deployed in a virtual chassis system, allowing up to eight appliances to be centrally managed. These devices were placed closer to the network edge to provide DDoS protection, capable of thwarting up to 50 million SYN floods per second per appliance. Additionally, Micron21 became the first company globally to use A10 Networks Cloud Services solution, integrating with SDN network fabrics and cloud orchestration platforms to deliver application and security services dynamically. This architecture allowed Micron21 to offer a seamless integration of application networking services with other data centre infrastructure, ensuring appropriate SLAs and compliance. The high-performance appliances provided the requisite capacity to scale key infrastructure services to meet elastic demands, while the flexible licensing model enabled cloud IaaS providers to provision virtual appliances on demand.

The integration of A10 ADCs allowed Micron21 to create horizontal scalability capacity, enabling seamless addition or removal of parallel processing capacity as required.
During the White Night festival, the Flexible Traffic Acceleration (FTA) processing capacity resulted in an 80% load reduction on each front-end server, greatly reducing the number of servers needed.
The ADCs' performance levels made A10 an ideal fit for Micron21’s ambitions, increasing data centre efficiency while reducing management overhead and operational costs.
Twice the performance of incumbent solutions at half the cost.
Capability to thwart up to 50 million SYN floods per second per appliance.
80% load reduction on each front-end server during the White Night festival.
