M Group Services Plant & Fleet Solutions (MGSPFS), a leading infrastructure services provider in the UK and Ireland, faced a significant challenge in reducing road traffic incidents involving their fleet. With a large number of vehicles on the road at any given time, the company needed to enhance its visibility of road incidents to preemptively prevent them. The goal was not only to ensure the safety of their drivers but also to reduce related insurance premiums. Despite having a strong culture of safety and efficiency, the lack of real-time monitoring and predictive insights made it difficult for MGSPFS to achieve its safety objectives.

To address this challenge, MGSPFS partnered with Samsara in 2020 to implement a comprehensive, AI-powered safety program. The solution involved the installation of Samsara's video-based safety technology, including Vehicle Gateways and dual-facing dash cameras, across all their vehicles. This enabled real-time tracking and monitoring of the fleet through Samsara’s remote telematics portal. The AI dash cameras provided the team with the ability to monitor the context in real time, while in-cab audio alerts warned drivers of risk factors such as tailgating, speeding, or mobile phone usage. In 2022, MGSPFS further enhanced its fleet safety capabilities by collaborating with Samsara, Brucom, and Motormax to develop a new system that provides super-fast health and safety insights for drivers as they are working. This industry-first safety system was highly commended in the Fleet Safety Innovation Award at the UK Fleet Champion Awards.
