Operational Impact
The use of solidThinking Inspire in the design process offered a common visual language for engineering and ID, showing where structure needs to be. This facilitated easy integration with current design tools and processes. The results from Inspire also enabled some less measurable benefits. The engineering design team was able to see load paths for the design in Inspire before exporting to Pro-E. This helped improve the boxy appearance of the current part, and provided a starting point for discussions with ID to ensure the delivery of style and function. The awareness of Inspire has grown within Evenflo and future projects will apply Inspire from inception, extending its use beyond car seats to gates, strollers, and high chairs.
Quantitative Benefit
Inspire provided a new way to look at part design
The design created was 25% lighter and more cost-effective than the part it replaced
Potential for a 30% mass and material reduction was identified
