The battalion comprises thirty intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance (ISTAR) staff members who support up to five operations per year in continual 6-month rotations. Before being deployed to support one of the European defense unit’s five annual operations, each staff member must attend a training course focusing on specific national security and defense intelligence components that the teams will employ in the field. The unit built each Intelligence Support Server (ISS) using the IBM i2 National Security and Defense Intelligence solution, which includes IBM i2 Analyst’s Notebook® Premium, IBM i2 iBase, IBM i2 iBase Geographic Information System Interfaces, and IBM i2 Text Chart software. The teams use the ISS to gather human, environmental, geospatial, military, and criminal data while following a broad range of requirements.
