SVP faced several business challenges with the management of their energy assessments. SVP was going out into the field with a checklist in hand and manually conducting energy audits—taking key staff members out of the office. Once the audit was completed, the utility staff would need to assess the data and compile a report to send to the customer. Depending on the bandwidth of the auditor, the time it would take to generate and send out the report could vary from a few days to a few weeks. Overall, SVP spent about three hours to conduct an audit and assemble the report. In addition, all of the valuable customer, premise, and building data was tracked manually.

Silicon Valley Power (SVP) is a service-oriented utility located in the heart of Silicon Valley. SVP's customers include some of the largest, world-class high-tech businesses. The utility strives to provide its customers with reliable power and an exceptional experience. Historically, SVP conducted residential energy audits manually, using a checklist in the field. In 2014, SVP selected Nexant’s iEnergy Onsite to more efficiently and effectively conduct their field audits, increase program participation, and improve their customers’ experience.

To meet their challenges, SVP sought out an off-the-shelf solution that would be flexible to accommodate changing program needs. SVP partnered with Nexant to streamline their entire energy audit process and provide a better overall experience to their customers. Another key element that SVP looked for in a solution was self-service. SVP did not want to be dependent upon internal IT or third-party resources to make updates and changes down the road. Therefore, one of SVP’s requirements was a purpose-built, flexible solution that they could manage and maintain on their own without significant additional investment or resources. By leveraging a mobile software application approach, data is collected throughout the audit process using iEnergy Onsite. This data is synced and saved on a backend system and available instantly. At the end of the audit, an energy savings report is instantly generated for SVP’s customers. With this approach, the customer knows exactly which programs they are eligible to participate in based on their energy audit and most importantly—how to take action to both participate in those programs and reduce their energy use.
