In 2015, Wye Cylinder Engineering Ltd (WCE), a manufacturer of precision hydraulic cylinders, was facing a significant challenge. Their existing manufacturing system was being phased out by the supplier, who suggested migrating to an alternative system. However, this alternative system was designed for much larger businesses and lacked a substantial UK user group. WCE had specific requirements for their new system, including an active user group, continuous development and improvement, and a large UK customer base. They also needed a highly-evolved MRP II capability due to the nature of their business. As they explored the enterprise systems marketplace, they realized the need for a comprehensive ERP system that could meet all their requirements.

After exploring various systems, WCE found their solution in Exel Computer Systems’ EFACS E/8 ERP system. The implementation was straightforward and went live in early 2016. WCE licensed 16 full EFACS users and 13 factory-floor users of EFACS’ shop-floor data capture capability. They made extensive use of EFACS E/8’s MRP II capabilities and shop-floor data capture capabilities. WCE also had some bespoke code written to provide specific additional functionality. Over time, they began to use EFACS E/8’s capacity planning capabilities and upgraded to newer releases to take advantage of additional functionalities. The latest upgrade included full support for Microsoft’s Edge web browser, a new bank reconciliation capability, and several improvements in the area of banking and finance.
