Healthwave, Ireland's first Digital Pharmacy, faced significant challenges with its home delivery prescription service. The entire delivery process was planned using paper, with delivery details exported from their order management system onto an excel spreadsheet, printed, and given to drivers on clipboards. This system was not sustainable in the long term due to the difficulty in storing and searching through these records. Additionally, there was no way of recording undelivered order items that were returned to the pharmacy. Existing pharmacy software systems did not have deliveries built in, only dispensing and sale. Furthermore, Healthwave was not pre-planning their delivery routes, with drivers using Google Maps to choose their next delivery based on their current location. They offer a prescription delivery service with nationwide delivery, changing the pharmacy industry in Ireland by allowing customers to sign up online, text their pharmacists, and have their medicines delivered right to their door each month in personalized PillPods. Their service can be used from anywhere and is easier to use and cheaper than a regular pharmacy. With next-day and even same-day delivery available depending on location, Healthwave has been incredibly successful and innovative.

To address these challenges, Healthwave implemented SmartRoutes Route Planning and Route Optimization Software. This software takes into account variables like road dimensions and vehicle restrictions, automatically creating and optimizing delivery routes each day. This saved delivery drivers time and increased efficiency. Healthwave also implemented Fleet Tracking Software, giving the customer care team access to real-time information via the live tracking portal. This improved oversight of the delivery day and allowed customers to receive up-to-the-minute information. To capture proof of delivery (POD), the team used SmartRoutes to take an electronic signature from the recipient via the driver app. This digital trail could be used for subsequent audits or reporting. The cloud-hosted solution also allowed PODs to be stored, searched for, accessed, and printed by any staff member with these permissions.
