Challenge	Late in 2010, a Surmotech customer with a highly complex, dense PCBA required complete product, materials, and process traceability. While it was possible to fulfill these requirements using the existing systems, it would have adversely impacted throughput. Surmotech began investigating an integrated solution. The challenge was to find a system to manage the setup of their machines, track the components and units, and finally compile data from each point on the manufacturing floor to meet the end customer requirements for traceability and historical genealogy. Solution	Surmotech decided to expand their existing AEGIS NPI platform into an AEGIS MOS system. The AEGIS MOS team proposed a modular and scalable upgrade path from their existing platform. The implementation was launched with the first pre-production runs that met the customer’s requirements for traceability. The AEGIS MOS software collects data and distributes it into reports, visualizations, and real-time dashboards, which are used to constantly improve quality and efficiency. Traceability of every product is achieved while failures and rejections can be identified and eliminated before they become an issue for the customer. After the successful launch of the AEGIS MOS with that initial customer, Surmotech began full implementation across their entire customer base.
