SICREDI, a credit union in Brazil, was facing a challenge in maintaining its network security. Despite having robust perimeter security, the credit union lacked advanced security tools. They needed to gain insight into specific security incidents, assess network and endpoint vulnerabilities, and determine which incidents and vulnerabilities were the most risky. They also needed to develop a deeper understanding of their changing network and the security needed to protect it. The credit union's internal network had grown from a few servers and workstations to a sprawling environment that IT had lost control over. They needed a solution that could help them regain control and automate some of the cumbersome IT tasks contributing to network sprawl, increasing vulnerabilities, and security blind spots.

SICREDI is a credit union based in Brazil, with branches across central and southern Brazil. It serves approximately 1.5 million customers. Despite being considered as having a fairly mature security posture compared to other banks in South America, SICREDI recognized the need to continue bolstering its security profile. The credit union's internal network began small, with only a few servers and a small number of workstations. However, as the credit union grew, as more and more branches moved onto the Internet and as more tech-savvy individuals configured devices to meet their own needs, IT quickly lost control over the environment’s security. The network comprises 900 servers and 13,000 workstations spread across a number of different branches.

SICREDI selected BeyondTrust’s Retina Network Security Scanner to address its network security issues. The Retina Network Security Scanner provides multi-platform vulnerability management. It identifies known and zero-day vulnerabilities and provides security risk assessments that enable security best practices, policy enforcement, and compliance with regulatory audits. Retina is able to scan an entire Class C network in less than 15 minutes, discovering all networked devices. It also discovers wireless devices and their configurations, ensuring these connections can be audited for the appropriate security settings. SICREDI also deployed Retina Enterprise to control its mixed-OS environment. The deployment took approximately 12 months, considering the complexity of the environment that includes Linux, Microsoft and IBM AIX servers, as well as workstations running both Red Hat Linux and different versions of Windows.
