AB Tasty, a leading customer experience optimization SaaS provider, was facing challenges with its technical infrastructure in 2017. As the company took on bigger clients, the management of increased web traffic became a significant issue. The cloud-based infrastructure, designed around virtual machines, was proving to be inadequate for the scale at which the business was operating. The company needed a new kind of architecture that could handle massive amounts of web traffic and provide high-quality data to its clients. AB Tasty's platform, which allows clients to experiment with new website designs, apps, and other features, was also in need of an upgrade to provide more resonant campaigns for their chosen demographics.

AB Tasty decided to redesign its architecture with Google Cloud. With the help of Google Cloud Partner SFEIR, the company perfected its new architecture during the proof of concept stage, working out the right combination of products to achieve what it needed. The new architecture was built around microservices and included Google Kubernetes Engine, Bigtable, Dataflow, BigQuery, and Pub/Sub. AB Tasty's platform became event-driven, with an event created every time a user interacted with a client's website or app. These events were streamed with Google Kubernetes Engine and Pub/Sub into Google Cloud Storage buckets and BigQuery. With Dataflow, the company streamed the events data into BigQuery, which served as AB Tasty’s serverless, highly scalable data warehouse. The data was monitored for errors throughout the pipeline, ensuring that customers received the highest quality data possible.

Since migrating to Google Cloud, AB Tasty has had the infrastructure designed for scale without having to compromise on its quality of service. The company has been able to handle massive amounts of traffic without affecting its service. The analytics and machine learning capabilities of BigQuery have enhanced its personalization product. Developers are now able to create and test new features and ideas by simply spinning up an instance with Google Kubernetes Engine without having to worry about provisioning or draining IT resources, resulting in richer, more mature products. This has contributed to AB Tasty’s continued growth over the last few years. The company continues to evolve and experiment with new ways of working, with a keen interest in exploring how Google Cloud integrates with open-source technology in the future.
The new infrastructure can handle around 50,000 events per second, with up to 200,000 events per second at peak times, without affecting performance.
The company is now able to ingest, process, and analyze around 2 billion events per day.
AB Tasty has achieved a 99.99% service-level agreement.
